Excerpt and Review Tour: Bad Judgment by Meghan March

BADJUDGMENT-banner

Bad JUD Cover FrontHe’s so arrogant.

She’s so self-righteous.

I can’t stand him.

I want her.

He’s a distraction I don’t need.

She’ll say yes eventually because I’m not giving up.

Justine Porter is stuck between a rock and a stripper pole. She lost her law school scholarship, which means she has two choices to keep her life on track: strip for her tuition or tutor the most distractingly sexy guy in her class—the one she’s been turning down for two years straight. It should be an easy choice, but tutoring Ryker Grant could derail her plans to graduate with honors faster than two-for-one night at the Déjà Vu. Then again, topless has never really been her color.

She could take the easy road, just this once . . . but the deal has enough loopholes to trip anyone up.

Who knew they taught bad judgment in law school?

“I’ve got some things I need to say to you, and you’re going to let me.”

Her brown eyes snap up to mine, surprise clear in them. “Why should I?”

“Because you’re nothing if not curious, and you want to know what I have to say.”

She steps backward, and I let my fingertips trail across her skin before they drop away. Justine adjusts the straps of her backpack on her shoulders and tucks Chewbacca into a side pocket.

“You know you want to hear the rare sound of me apologizing, don’t you?”

Justine purses her lips, and all I can think about is the dreams I had all weekend of her staring down at me from a stage while she danced and stripped. My own private show. I’m not going to admit how many times I jacked off to the mental picture. I need the real thing, and I won’t have another shot if she won’t even give me a chance to talk to her.

I don’t know what changes her mind, but she relaxes her posture and relents. “Fine. You’ve got five minutes. This better be good.”

It’s not much, but I’ll take it. I lead the way out of the classroom, slipping out the side door I used to make my unobtrusive entrance. Or at least, it was unobtrusive until I decided to share my strike-out history with the entire class at Professor Turner’s invitation.

Glancing behind me, I’m marginally surprised to see Justine actually following. I head for the third-floor doors to the library, where the private rooms are. This conversation isn’t for public consumption.

The first private room on the right is empty, so I push the door open. Justine trails me inside, and I shrug off my backpack and drop it on one of the four chairs.

She closes the door behind her and leans against it, her arms crossed over her chest. I’m guessing she wouldn’t stand that way if she realized how it draws attention to her chest. I force my eyes back to her face. I’m not about to fuck this up.

“Wow, you must really plan on groveling if you need privacy,” she says, an eyebrow raised in challenge.

“Maybe I just wanted to get you alone.”

She rolls her eyes. “And I’m already getting bored.”

“You love to bust my balls, don’t you?”

“I don’t really like to think about your balls, if you want to know the truth.”

I try on my charming smile, the one that has dropped panties for years. “I’m calling bullshit on that. You’ve thought about me at least once.”

She pushes off the door and turns halfway to reach for the handle. “And if that’s all you wanted to say, then I think we’re done here.”

“Wait.”

I’m shocked when she listens.

Justine rubs her hands over her face, her every move revealing her frustration. “You ask me out for two years, practically blackmail me into a kiss, then you blow me off completely, and now you’re all up in my business again. What the hell do you want from me?”

Her confusion punches me in the gut, making me wish I could tell her why I wasn’t there the morning I promised to help her move. It wasn’t for any reason she thinks.

I stride toward her, pressing one palm against the door beside her head. “I’m not blowing you off, and I haven’t stopped thinking about that night.”

“Then why—”

I can’t give her the explanation she wants, so I try something different.

Lowering my head, I catch the next words out of her mouth on my lips. They’re just as soft as I remember, and I drop my other hand to her hip, drawing her against me. Her fingers curl into the fabric of my T-shirt, almost reluctantly, but she’s not pushing me away.

I take her mouth, my tongue diving between her lips to taste her again—finally, but the pulsing of my dick against the zipper of my jeans forces me to back off. If I don’t, I’ll be laying her out on the table behind us, and that’s not what this is about. At least, not all of what this is about.

With her face flushed and her hair messy from my fingers, Justine shutters her expression. She’s rebuilding her walls brick by brick.

That’s not going to work for me.

“What’s it going to take, Justine?” I remember asking her the same question at the bar.

Her dark eyes fill with confusion. “What’s what going to take?” The words come out defensively.

“With you. To get a second chance. I fucked up once, but doesn’t everyone deserve another shot?”

Review (5 Stars)

*** I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review!***

This book had a LOT going on! Staying true to other books I have read by this author, she likes to pack a punch and she does NOT hold back! This book had it all-intrigue, passion, laugh out loud moments, gut wrenching flashbacks and a well thought and executed story line. I thoroughly enjoyed this story!

I really liked Justine. She was smart, strong, loyal, hardworking, passionate, vulnerable, and a take no prisoners kind of woman! She was not afraid to put Ryker in his place. She was also very determined to make it through law school no matter what it took. I admire heroines who have goals and pursue them even when they are met with a lot of resistance and some hardcore interference. Justine has had an incredibly difficult life. Nothing was ever given to her. She had to fight hard for everything that she accomplished, and that sometimes made her come off a bit too hard to other people. She learned at an early age that you couldn’t count on most people, and so she did what she had to do to succeed. Even though she was fiercely attracted to Ryker, she felt that she was just going to end up as another notch on his bed post so she never gave him a chance. But Ryker surprised her by being much deeper than she ever could have anticipated.

Ryker made women stupid-he was that sexy and charming. He’s had his fair share of women who threw themselves at him with just one smirk, and sometimes it was about the challenge, but Justine was in a category all her own. She didn’t fit in to any of the molds that other women did. It wasn’t just her looks that drew him in, but also her intelligence and confidence. Ryker had to work hard to earn every inch with Justine. He wasn’t above using her sexual frustration and desires against her-he did have an arsenal after all.

I liked that this story dealt with a lot of mor and ethical dilemmas. Both Justine and Ryker had some really serious secrets that they were keeping. Secrets so powerful that if they got out it could change their futures. These were slowly revealed over time, and just when you think you had seen the last of them something even bigger came out. This book definitely kept me guessing. The story took turns I never saw coming, and as a voracious reader, I love books like that. It’s no fun reading a story where you have the whole plot figured out in five minutes-even if you do like the characters.

This book just ticked all my boxes for me. I loved the witty banter, the dirty talk, the sexy times, the funny sidekicks and the suspense of figuring out what was really going on behind the scenes. If you enjoy books that make you think then this book is right up your alley. The writing was fresh, the characters engaging and delightful, and the ending was perfect!

The only thing I wish I would have seen was a certain person get their comeuppance. I wanted to experience that part of the story
rather than guess if it happened or not for sure. Overall, though, this was a fantastic read that I HIGHLY recommend!!! You won’t be disappointed!

A STANDALONE NOVEL that does NOT need to be read in conjunction with any other book.

From New York Times bestselling author, Penelope Ward, comes a friends-to-lovers story with sexy new characters.

After getting dumped, the last thing I needed was to move next door to someone who reminded me of my ex-boyfriend, Elec.

Damien was a hotter version of my ex.

The neighbor I’d dubbed “Angry Artist” also had two massive dogs that kept me up with their barking.

He wanted nothing to do with me. Or so I thought until one night I heard laughter coming through an apparent hole in my bedroom wall.

Damien had been listening to all of my phone sessions with my therapist.

The sexy artist next door now knew all of my deepest secrets and insecurities.

We got to talking.

He set me straight with tips to get over my breakup.

He became a good friend, but Damien made it clear that he couldn’t be anything more.

Problem was, I was falling hard for him anyway. And as much as he pushed me away, I knew he felt the same…because his heartbeat didn’t lie.

I thought my heart had been broken by Elec, but it was alive and beating harder than ever for Damien.

I just hoped he wouldn’t shatter it for good.

Author’s note – Neighbor Dearest is a full-lengthstandalone novel. Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

Looking tense, he placed his hands slowly into his pockets as he looked at me. “What exactly happened last night?”

“What are you talking about?”

Nice try dodging the question.

He moved in closer to me. “What am I talking about? You leaving me with a giant fucking basket of muffins and running off before I could even say anything? Ring a bell?”

“I thought you’d be alone. It caught me off guard.”

His eyes softened. “You were upset…”

“No, I wasn’t.”

“You’re a terrible liar, Chelsea. Fucking horrible at it. You don’t hide your feelings very well.”

“You think you know just about everything there is to know about me, don’t you?”

“Not everything. But it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to read you. It’s one of the things I like about you, though. You’re one of the least fake people I’ve ever met.”

“Then, tell me. Why do you think I was upset?”

“Honestly? I think you’re confused about me.”

“Confused…”

“Yes. I think you’re wondering why I opted not to have dinner with you and instead ended up with a woman I’d literally just met, someone who isn’t as sweet as you and sure as fuck isn’t as pretty as you. So, you’re wondering what the hell I was thinking. Am I right?”

That’s exactly what I was thinking.

He continued, “I know we haven’t known each other for very long, but I do feel a connection with you, okay? If you’ve sensed something, you’re not imagining it.”

“Well, if I wasn’t confused before…now I definitely am.”

“I feel like I need to say this now, because I can’t stand the thought of you thinking that I somehow find you undesirable when it’s exactly the opposite.”

I crossed my arms. “Again. Not following you.”

He closed his eyes as if to try to find the right words. “It’s just that I know for sure that I can’t ever be what someone like you needs in a boyfriend, in a partner. It’s not that we wouldn’t have fun or be great together at first. I’m just not good for you in the long-term—not marriage material. And the reasons are too complex to get into, except to say that it has nothing to do with you and everything to do with me. I can’t, in good conscience, start something with a girl like you.”

“A girl like me…”

“Yes. You’re not the kind of girl a guy takes home for a quick fuck. You’re the girl he keeps.”

Right. Just like Elec did.

Review (5 Stars):

*** I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review!***

This book was amazing! Totally and completely addicting! A top fave and a definite MUST READ!!!

Okay, so I’m not gonna lie. When I read the synopsis and saw that this was Chelsea’s book, I was a little worried. I LOVED Elec and Greta hardcore and I didn’t want to read about Chelsea badmouthing him. I knew he would be brought up, there was no getting around that, but I never could have anticipated how that previous relationship would be tied up. It was brilliant!

Let me just start out by saying that Chelsea was really lovable! She was sweet, strong, stubborn, loyal and feisty! I really enjoyed learning more about her. Not that I should be surprised, because this author has a knack for writing truly phenomenal characters. There are always so many layers and they are built upon beautifully. Chelsea was no different. It felt strange to like her at first, almost as if I was betraying Greta and Elec, since she was one thing that stood between them for awhile, but I loved experiencing her happy ending with Damien! She was the perfect heroine!

At first, Damien was your typical bad boy who knew how to reel you in, and keep you hooked, all while slowly pushing you away for getting too close. He was breaking my heart, even when he didn’t mean to. He was so thoughtful at times, and boy did he have a possessive streak in him. It was clear that he was confused about Chelsea, and their out of this world connection, but for some reason he just never let himself be happy. No matter how hard she fought him on it. It wasn’t until his past was revealed, and the secrets brought to life, that he was finally able to embrace the love of a lifetime. To fight for everything he deserved. And when those floodgates opened up, I fell for this charming man even more. He was incredible and I couldn’t have dreamed up a better soulmate for Chelsea!

This book sucked me in and had a death grip on my heart. The further I read the more I needed their to be an absolutely breathtaking happily ever after for these two. I never know what to expect when reading a book by this author. Only that it will be beautifully written, with characters that pull at your heartstrings, and an ending that will most likely leave you in tears. This book did all that for me and more. The last few chapters had my heart soaring in the clouds. I was so grateful to get to read about their happy ending without it being condensed into the epilogue. I loved experiencing the highs and lows as they happened rather than after the fact. And the way that everything tied together in the epilogue just left a huge smile on my face! I couldn’t imagine anything more perfect than what we got!

 Excerpt:

~Cami~

He’s back.

I take a deep, cleansing breath and push my hands through my blond hair, scrutinizing my makeup. I don’t wear much, and I’m certainly not as talented with it as my best friend, Addie, but it’ll do. My green eyes are accentuated nicely, lips are pink, and heart is beating faster than ever.

“You’ve known him your whole life. It’s not like he’s new,” I remind myself in the mirror. “You’re just going over to say hi. It’s no big deal.”

I don’t look convinced, so I narrow my eyes and lean in. “He’s just an old friend. Suck it up, buttercup.”

Landon is my other best friend, Mia’s older brother. Addie, Mia, and I grew up together, and I’ve been in love with Landon for as long as I can remember. God, one look at him usually sends the giant birds in my stomach into overdrive. He’s handsome— understatement of the year— and sweet and . . . damn.

I’m ridiculous.

I shake my head at my reflection and turn away to grab my purse and set out to Landon’s parents’ place, where he’s been staying since arriving home a few days ago. Landon was in the Navy since he graduated from college. He was a pilot, until an accident a few months ago that resulted in him ejecting from the plane.

I’ve never felt fear like I did the day we received the call that he’d been hurt. And the past few months of him being on the other side of the world have been torture. I couldn’t see him to make sure he was okay. He had to recover, then go through the process of being discharged from the Navy before he could come home.

Thank God he’s back now. I gave him a couple of days to acclimate, but I just can’t stay away anymore. I need to see him.

And I’m nervous as hell.

I park at the curb by his parents’ house, gather my courage about me, and walk up the sidewalk to the front door, knocking with more conviction than I feel.

There isn’t any movement in the house, making me frown. It’s early enough in the day that he should be home.

I knock again, and just when I’m about to give up and leave, the door is yanked open and there he is.

Half- naked.

Hair rumpled.

Eyes blurry.

Did I mention that he’s half freaking naked?

~Franka~
That day had been one I wished to quickly forget.
Indeed, the months since those witches took my Antoine had been time I wished I had the power to erase from my memory.
I had power.
I did not have that kind of power.
These thoughts on my mind, I moved down the hallway of the Winter Palace, seeking my room where I planned to pull the cord, ring a servant and request several bottles of Fleuridian wine.
Wine might not make me forget, but I’d found of late that it served well to dull the pain.
I turned the corner, my eyes to my slippers, but my senses made me lift my gaze to the passageway.
At what I saw, I halted and grew still, then slowly and quietly retraced my steps and ducked behind the corner, peering back around.
Oh my.
The Prince Noctorno of the other world was in the doorway to a bedchamber.
Although, he was not actually a prince. Not in this universe. Apparently they had very few princes in that other world. A world that existed on a parallel plane where all beings had twins to my own world.
This I thought was rather mad (everything about it, obviously), but with few princes, that meant there were few kings, so who ruled?
He reported that he was instead a member of the city guard, an occupation he referred to as being “a cop.” A rather surprising statement considering all that was him.
He was no member of a guard.
He was a prince.
And he called himself Noc, for some unknown reason, as Noctorno was a fine name, a strong name, a regal name (this last was true as his counterpart in this world was a prince).
And right now he had has back to me.
He was wearing a pair of trousers the like that couldn’t be found in my world. They were made of a rough, sturdy, faded-blue material. He also had a shirt that was not the fashion in this world. It was attractive and made of an equally attractive plaid. And it was a shirt that fit his broad shoulders magnificently.
His thick, black hair was untidy (this also attractive).
And I could see his light-blue eyes but only in my imagination as he had his back to me.
They were not eyes you were likely to forget. With his dark hair and skin browned in the sun, those eyes were deliciously striking.
There was a day, though now that day seemed lifetimes ago, when a sight such as Noctorno Hawthorne of another world (or indeed this one) would have caused me to have a much different reaction, not only to him, but to my plans for the imminent future.
That was before Antoine.
That was before I met the man who introduced me to, well…me.

Kristin Ashley - headshotAbout Kristen Ashley:

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorise and she hadn’t taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen’s Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning.

Nothing’s changed.

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus, she’s blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. They all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. She grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing, it keeps getting better.
